Transform Your Smile With Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are a cosmetic solution that can be used for a variety of fixes for your teeth. How can they completely transform your smile? Dr. Rawley Fuller IV of Fuller Dental, a cosmetic dentist in Burlington, NC, describes the uses of porcelain veneers.

What are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are made of a thin shell of dental ceramic that goes over the front and sides of the tooth. They’re custom-made to your tooth to make sure that it fits perfectly. The dental ceramic is also color-matched to either blend in with the rest of your smile, or get a whiter shade that you prefer. Ceramic is durable and stain-resistant, to give you a stronger smile that you can’t wait to show off.

What Do Veneers Treat?

One of the best benefits of porcelain veneers is the wide variety of problems they can treat. When traditional teeth whitening methods aren’t effective, porcelain veneers can provide an alternative solution for stained or discolored teeth. A veneer can cover a misshapen tooth so that your smile is even again.

Sometimes a tooth can get chipped or cracked. Veneers are ideal for mild chips breaks in the tooth. They prevent the tooth from getting damaged further and eliminate the look of a broken tooth as well. As we get older, our teeth get worn down. Porcelain veneers can also eliminate this look, making teeth look as if they’re brand new.

Lastly, veneers can help with gaps between the teeth or teeth that look too short or too long. These issues are things that can make you self-conscious about your smile. Since they’re shaped custom for you, the dentist can make sure you get veneers that are the perfect size and shape for the problems you want to fix.

The Porcelain Veneers Process

Before we perform any cosmetic or restorative procedure, we’ll do a thorough examination to make sure the procedure is suitable for you. Typically, most patients are eligible for porcelain veneers. However, we’ll do an oral examination to make sure this is the right treatment option for your smile.

When we move forward with veneers, a small amount of tooth structure will be removed from the teeth receiving veneers. We want to make sure the veneers lay flush with the rest of your teeth and look natural. Impressions are taken and sent to a dental lab to make the veneers. We’ll provide you with a temporary covering for the 2-3 weeks it takes for your veneers to be made.

Once the veneers are made and ready, we’ll have you come back into the office. We’ll remove the temporary restoration and fit the veneers to your teeth. It’s important to make sure they have the shape and color you were looking for. If you’re satisfied, the veneers will then be permanently bonded to your teeth.
