Invisalign aligners are made out of a clear, plastic material that is completely see-through while in use. This allows patients to discreetly undergo orthodontic treatment without anyone noticing. Unless you remove your aligners in front of someone, no one should be able to tell that you are wearing your Invisalign aligners. We ask our patients to wear their aligners on average of 20-22 hours a day for best results; however, it is easy to do so considering once you put them on, you may forget that they are there! Teens and young adults who are more susceptible to feeling self-conscious about pursuing orthodontic treatment for themselves are relieved to have this discreet alternative to traditional metal braces.
Invisalign aligners are removable, which is a major benefit of choosing this orthodontic treatment option. Patients do not have to worry about the dietary restrictions and oral hygiene hazards associated with traditional metal braces. With braces, patients are often asked to avoid excessively crunchy foods. Additionally, they are asked to take extra time during their oral hygiene routine to clean around the brackets and beneath the wires. With Invisalign, simply remove the aligners whenever you want to eat, drink, or brush your teeth. Because orthodontic treatment of any kind will take several months or even years, Invisalign’s removability is much easier to adjust to than having to alter your lifestyle choices throughout the entire duration of your treatment plan.
Patients who choose Invisalign will spend less time in the dentist’s office compared to patients being treated with traditional metal wires. This is because traditional metal braces must be tightened by a professional orthodontist every 4-6 weeks to ensure your treatment plan progresses as planned. With Invisalign, patients are given all of their sets of aligners upfront, meaning they do not have to return to our office every time they need a new set of aligners. We will instruct you via your treatment plan when to change your aligners. Most patients will swap out their aligners every two weeks. While some check-in appointments may be necessary for our doctors to monitor your progress, you will spend overall less time in the dental chair, leaving more time for after-work or after-school activities.
